Kreative Ways & Solutions, LLC , a local H Street NE business, is currently seeking volunteers to participate in the Unity Health Care Key Corner redesign project at the former DC General Hospital in Hill East. This project has been endorsed by the national Color Cares organization who will sponsor the redesign as one of their newest national projects. Color Cares mission “is dedicated to changing lives through the uplifting and healing power of color.” Color Cares believes that “by changing the color of one’s surroundings, we can make a positive change in one’s life!” Principal, Sherry Ways is a Washington, DC volunteer representative for the organization.
Unity Health Care, Inc. (Unity) was founded in 1985 as Health Care for the Homeless Project (HCHP) providing primary health care services to homeless individuals and families that resided in local emergency shelters or on the streets of the District of Columbia. With a patient population that is plagued by low literacy, the promotion of literacy has become an important part of standard primary care, enabling children to grow up with books and a love of reading. Unity’s goal is to increase literacy among children during the critical literacy skills acquisition years of six months to five years. Through a partnership with Reach Out and Read of Metro DC, Unity has developed the Key Corner Project. The Key Corner Project promotes early literacy by bringing new books and advice about the importance of reading aloud into the pediatric exam room, unlocking the door to reading success.
To support the Key Corner project Kreative Ways along with the team of Color Cares will redesign the Key Corner décor at the Unity Health Care clinic at the former DC General Hospital. Kate Smith of National Color Expert with Sensational Color and National Advisory Board Member of Color Cares will solicit donations and support from corporations, paint companies, etc., to help support the project. The design team of Bretnage Blair and Shea Capri Bartley under Kreative Ways & Solutions, LLC are busily putting together a design plan which will consist of new furnishings, murals and accent walls.
The project is considered Kreative Ways & Solutions, LLC signature community design advocacy project is in the planning phase and should commence shortly.
