Here are popular annual DC art events listed on the Weekly Events landing page of East City Art:

  • Capital Art Book Fair at Eastern market. The annual Capital Art Book Fair takes place in April and features exhibitors from across North America who sell art books, books as art, prints, photographs, stationary, stickers and so much more!  Located at Eastern Market’s North Hall, the free expo has something for everyone. 
  • Gateway Open Studio Tour. The annual Gateway Open Studio Tour takes place on the second Saturday in May from 12-5pm. More than 100 artists, studios, galleries, and cultural venues open their door making the event one of the largest visual arts experiences in the region. 
  • Pottery on the Hill at Hill Center is a weekend celebrating functional pottery featuring top ceramic artists from across the country. The art fair style expo is curated by potter Dan Finnegan who also sells his work.  The weekend is filled with demonstrations and other activities.
  • VisArts’ Annual Rockville Arts Festival.  VisArts transforms the streets surrounding Rockville Town Square into a vibrant outdoor gallery filled  demonstrations by VisArts instructors and includes a diverse group of 130 artists from around the country creating art in the following mediums: ceramics, drawing, fiber, glass, graphics, jewelry, metal, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, wood, and mixed media.
  • Tephra ICA Arts Festival. Formerly titled the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival, the event takes place in Reston, Virginia. Over 200 contemporary artists and artisans travel from across the country and Canada to present original handmade artwork to share with festival audiences. The festival also includes a wide-array of programming including live performances, site-specific installations, and exhibitions.
