Event: Saturday and Sunday, October 23 and 24 from 12pm to 5pm
Chevy Chase Art Walk 2021, presented by Ch/Art, the local community arts organization, will feature the work of 43 local artists in home and studio settings in Chevy Chase, DC and Chevy Chase, Maryland during an expanded event over two consecutive days, Saturday and Sunday, October 23rd and 24th. Each day’s event will run from noon to 5pm.
The Art Walk is free and open to the public, and will be held rain or shine – and will observe any Covid restrictions that may be in force at the time. Visitors are encouraged to obtain walking maps from local business sponsors so they can create their own leisurely tour of the artists they wish to visit during this art-filled weekend.
This year’s Art Walk is more than twice the size of the first Chevy Chase Art Walk in 2019 and will span two days. The 2020 Art Walk was canceled during the Covid lockdown, but organizers kept the spirit alive with pop-up as well as virtual art shows. Last April 18th as some Covid restrictions were eased in the District, more than one thousand people showed up at the PNC Bank parking lot for a one day Ch/Art tent show that was a huge success for both exhibitors and attendees.
Forty three artists will exhibit and sell their work from 22 homes and studios in Chevy Chase DC and MD next month. This talented group will offer work in a wide range of media including abstract and representational painting, sculpture, jewelry, pottery, ceramic art, photography, fabric art, mixed media and video. Brochures with the artists’ names and media and a map of the locations will be available at most local businesses on Connecticut Avenue and throughout the community and on the Ch/Art website (see below.)
Ch/Art also held a virtual Art Show during the pandemic, a Pop-Up afternoon exhibit at Lafayette School in July, and a beautiful juried art show in the Chevy Chase Village Hall in 2019. Ch/Art artists will be featured at Chevy Chase Day September 18 at the Chevy Chase Community Center. They will sponsor two arts activities for children as well as display lots of incredible art.
Ch/Art, Chevy Chase’s first community arts organization, was founded by local artists in 2018 with a mission to build community through the visual arts. Over 100 artists are involved in the organization. Ch/Art seeks to promote and enhance access to and understanding of the visual arts i and create opportunities for people of all ages to participate in the artistic process. Membership is open to visual artists throughout the Washington DC region.
