Opening: Saturday, March 17 from 5pm to 7:30pm
Chris Trueman’s lavish and exuberant paintings are immersed in the vibrancy of nature and the cosmos. He celebrates the act and excitement of abstract painting by combining elements of form and color to create an illusionistic depth, much like that of a movie or digital image. The viewer’s eye becomes convinced of a dimension that extends beyond the surface of the painting. The paintings are a pure celebration of form and color where the raw energy of brush stroke is softened by the colors of Southern California. Some evoke thoughts of wild landscapes, some seem calligraphic, all share a mysterious beauty.
Chris earned his MFA from Claremont Graduate University in 2010, graduating with a concentration in Painting. While at CGU he was the recipient of numerous awards including the Ann Peppers Foundation Fellowship, a Claremont Graduate University Merit Fellowship and a faculty recommended Dedalus Foundation Fellowship Nomination. Chris received a BFA from the San Francisco Art Institute in 2003, earning dual degrees in Painting and Digital Media. He has exhibited his work in numerous shows in San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego and internationally in Italy, Australia, France and Germany. Chris has shown at the Torrance Museum of Art and MOAH (Museum of Art and History). This is his second show with the Adah Rose Gallery.
