Opening: Friday, September 6 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
The light is electric and mesmerizing in the oil paintings of Matt Pinney. There are familiar elements of figure and landscape in each work but each scene is dreamlike, cinematic and mysterious. His subjects are as far ranging as opera singers, nightclubs, a day at the beach, classic statuary and an homage to great painters and mythologies of the past. There is an overarching sense of nostalgia, loneliness, desire and the need to connect with another human being in his work. Matt explores and celebrates the power and beauty of paint in all its color and purity to create works that are animated and allegorical.
