History holds a fascination for artist Nathan Loda. Through old photographs, folklore, ancient artifacts, and letters, his paintings examine his American identity and family stories. These stories are told using the myriad influences of his childhood: toys, films and adventures outdoors. There is a rich vitality in Nathan’s work and his paintings relate witty and expansive narratives. There are reoccurring motifs and characters including a little feathered doll he calls the “Trickster”, who suggests that perhaps there is more than meets the eye in a given work. His exquisitely painted oils are comprised of wonderfully small moments that invite the viewer to explore larger, universal stories. Nathan hopes that the paintings offer an opportunity to examine the history and culture of a country that is continuously learning about itself through new interpretations.
Nathan is an American realist Oil painter. He was born in 1989 and raised in Northern Virginia. He received an MFA degree from George Mason University in 2015 and a BFA in painting from Shepherd University in 2011. While studying art, Nathan took numerous trips to Latin America, visiting Argentina, Uruguay, Peru, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Nathan also studied abroad at the Lamar Dodd School of Art in Cortona, Italy. He has shown in numerous shows in the Washington DC area and currently teaches art at George Mason University. This is Nathan’s first show with Adah Rose Gallery.
