Area’s largest exhibition of Outsider, Folk and Self Taught artists featuring both locally and nationally selected artists.

Art Enables hosts one of the largest exhibits of Self-Taught artists in the area-the annual exhibit known as Outsider Art Inside the Beltway (OAIB).

Now in its ninth year, OAIB originally started as a way for local groups of self-taught artists to finally exhibit together. The very first Outsider Art Inside the Beltway show was held at MOCA DC in Georgetown.

Eight years and three locations later, OAIB has grown to take over both floors of the gallery at Art Enables and features artists from across the country on exhibit until November 21st, 2014. This year, over 300 submissions were reviewed from around the country to exhibit with the artists who work at Art Enables on a daily basis.

Three years ago, Art Enables opened up the show nationally and invited over two dozen groups to participate. Many well known organizations from across the US areparticipating again this year, including The Gallery at HAI (NYC), Creativity Explored (San Francisco), Sophie’s Gallery (California), Spindleworks (Maine) and Pure Vision (NYC) as well as perennial local favorites from groups such as Studio In-Sight (Bethesda), The Studio at Miriam’s Kitchen (DC) and Saint Elizabeths (DC).

Outsider Art Inside the Beltway was juried by local Outsider Art collector Dolly Vehlow from Gallery OonH and Outsider Art gallerists Grey and Linda Carter from Grey Carter Objects of Art. The show continues to be an excellent introduction for people curious about Outsider Art or looking to start their own collection with a selection of very affordable art in a wide array of styles.

Collectors, enthusiasts and aspiring artists are invited to view the exhibit during its opening Saturday, October 11, 2014, from 1-4 pm, at the Art Enables Studio (2204 Rhode Island Ave. NE, Washington, DC  20018.).

The exhibit is open to the public and free of charge and will continue to be on display until Friday, November 21, 2014.
