Opening Reception: Saturday, September 14 from 4pm to 6pm
Beginning September 3, 2019, and running through October 5, 2019, Art Enables—Washington DC’s only nonprofit art gallery and supported employment program solely dedicated to creating opportunities for adult visual artists with disabilities to build and develop a career in the arts and earn income from their art sales—will host the 13th annual “Outsider Art Inside the Beltway” (OAIB) exhibit. Historically, “OAIB” has been committed to highlighting and providing self-taught artists who often don’t have opportunities to exhibit their work the opportunity to do so. This includes new and emerging self-taught artists, artists with disabilities, and artists from traditionally underrepresented communities.
We are thrilled by the scope of talent, diversity, and style of artwork in this year’s exhibition. Collectors, enthusiasts, and aspiring artists are invited to view the exhibit during its opening reception on Saturday, Sept. 14, 2019, from 4 to 6 p.m. at Art Enables. Light refreshments and wine will be provided. The opening reception is free and open to the public.
Now in its 13th year, OAIB began is a way for D.C.-area groups working with self-taught artists to exhibit together. Over the last 13 years the exhibition has had such success that is now spans all three gallery spaces at Art Enables, and features artists from across the nation alongside the resident artists of Art Enables. The show continues to be an excellent introduction for a community curious about outsider and folk art or looking to start their own collection with a selection of affordable art in a wide array of styles.
Participating studios and artists in this year’s exhibition include ArtWorks, Bethesda Health and Rehab, Imagine That!, Little City, Make Studio, Miriam’s Kitchen, Pure Vision Arts, Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital, Studio In-Sight, VisAbility Art Lab, Andrew Weeks, Ayoola Daramola, Biance Rentie, C. Maura Poshka, Catherine Toulsaly, Cherie Zanger, DeVante Capers, Kamilah House, Khanh Nguyen, Kimo Williams, Logical Hue, Rachel Fowler, Ronnie Turner, Terry Johnson, and Vlad Gorlami.
