Naomi Whitestone, Kill Your Darlings, 2021, 36×48”, mixed medium and gold leaf on canvas.

Naomi Whitestone is a fifth-generation artist born in Montclair, New Jersey in 1999 and currently based in Brooklyn, New York.

“My work expresses gratitude for life’s most simple yet profound experiences. These experiences include relationships, transcendence, and visceral expressions of emotion, the human soul, and the spirit of God. In my practice, I cycle through periods of isolation and communion as a ritual of honoring intuitive wisdom and merging individual realities with collective realities. My choices in color, composition, and form are inspired by the beauty of the natural world, which I hope evokes a sense of nostalgia and harmony.”

In My Youth is a series of five pieces that were formed through rekindling a childlike sense of creative expression and unbounded joy in my artistic practice. The title of this exhibition is a reminder to myself to never stop approaching my work, and life, this way.

Arts In Color Curatorial and Gallery is located at 1843 14th Street NW.
