The Harmony Hall Gallery transforms into a light box with the arrival of Melissa Burley’s illuminated sculptures. Burley investigates the concept of “beauty after death” by incorporating natural, manmade and recycled materials into a wooden box which is then illuminated from within. By combining and arranging discarded artifacts that may ordinarily end up in a landfill, she seeks to highlight and call to attention our role in the preservation of Earth. The result is a beautiful, and complex, machine inspired composition that is dramatically bathed in light and lures the viewer in.
