Opening Reception: Saturday, April 26 from 5pm to 7pm

The Capitol Hill Art League will host a league member show on Saturday, April 26th at the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop located at 545 Seventh Street SE.

The show, entitled Black & White & In Between will open Saturday, April 26th from 5-7 PM with the juror’s talk and award presentations at 5:30 PM. This will be a multi-media show including 3-D art.

Juror Richard Dana is an artist, independent curator and arts administrator based in Washington, DC. Mr. Dana has exhibited extensively in the United States and internationally. His work has appeared in over 20 one-person and over 100 group exhibitions. He concentrates principally on mixed-media painting and drawing, although he also has been moving into installation territory recently. He worked as an economist and Soviet Affairs expert in Washington, DC from 1977 to 1984. He decided in 1984 to dedicate himself to a full-time art career and has been creating and curating art ever since.

The following artists will receive awards at the opening event on April 26th:

  • Wally Szyndler Award for 3D art to Judy Folkenberg
  • First Place: Tara Hamilton
  • Second Place: Judy Searles
  • Third Place: Stephanie Bianco
  • Honorable Mention: Nancy Freeman, Eric Johnson, & Fierce Sonia

The Capitol Hill Arts Workshop (CHAW) is a community-based, not-for-profit organization founded in 1972. The Workshop facility includes a dance studio paint studio, black box theater, art gallery, complete ceramics/pottery studio, a photography darkroom (the only “open” darkroom in DC), and private music instruction studios.
