Shipped straight from his studio in Australia, Ken Strong’s new works represent a variety of subjects from Australia and the US. Regardless of the distance, both locations offer striking similarities in their human impact, the light, and the emotions stimulated.

Strong feels that a free approach to artistic composition can bring to life even the most commonplace subject. Reality is only used as a guide. Metamorphosis of the subject takes place when the form, colors, and contrasts are combined with flexibility. The addition of a human touch reinforces the important relationship between the landscape and its inhabitants.

“Portraying the landscape is very powerful, and composing an animated, expressive work based on physical surroundings is a great challenge. For me it represents a continuing and changing goal to create the ideal composition,” says Strong.

“I am always looking for different approaches in the creation of artwork, whether through the medium or the composition. Often it is achieved by employing bold shapes, using movement and flow to support the subject, application of glazes or thick paint and spatula effects, or allowing the luminescence from under- lying pigments show through. Every technique has its own place.”

Starting dual careers in 1978 at the NSW University of Technology in Sydney, Strong focused on Art Studies in composition, mediums and art history. In 1983 he earned his degree in Civil Engineering, which included specialist training in architectural drafting and technical presentation.

Since 1988, Strong has exhibited his work in more than 45 solo and group exhibitions in multiple countries. He has been featured in several issues of Australian Artist, and has several awards to his credit.
