Opening event: Friday, September 23 from 5-10pm
Coloring book activity: Saturday, October 15
Come visit the library during Hispanic Heritage Month and view 21 original artworks by local DC-based Latino artists!
From September 15th to October 15th we will be displaying prints, drawings, and paintings from five local Latino artists — Carolina Mayorga, Ric Garcia, Carlos Carmonamedina, Veronica Melendez, and Irene Clouthier. The exhibition is curated by Phil Hutinet. Art will be hung throughout the library on all three floors and will include biographical information and artist statements from the artists themselves.
Brochures for a self-guided tour of Galería del barrio will be available at the information desks.
A children’s Galería del barrio scavenger hunt will be held within the gallery itself during Art All Night at the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library on Friday, September 23rd from 5pm – 10pm. Children who complete the scavenger hunt will receive a prize.
On Saturday, October 15, the Mt. Pleasant Neighborhood Library will be distributing FREE coloring books made in collaboration with Carolina Mayorga, Ric Garcia, Carlos Carmonamedina, Veronica Melendez, and Irene Clouthier. These coloring books include images of Mt. Pleasant, Columbia Heights, the library, as well as the various countries and cultures that our patrons are from. Coloring books were made in response to survey responses from patrons and are supported by the Mt. Pleasant Library Friends.
