Exhibition on view January 5 through February 9

In her first solo exhibition, Clara Cornelius creates fantastical digital collages on fabric, paper, buttons, and interactive pieces. Imaginary Funhouse is a colorful mélange of kaleidoscopic landscapes and bizarre panoramas created from everyday images that are inverted, blown up, repeated, shrunk down, colored, and mirrored. In this exhibition, Clara remakes the world into an endless, shifting pattern.

Imaginary Funhouse has been a long time in the making; Clara has curated nearly 20 years of her own photography, breaking images apart into what she calls “precious little pieces.” Her exhibited artworks, which include three epic pieces each 208” x 88”, two interactive works/games, and a button machine (bring your quarters) express delight at the everyday. As Clara puts it, “the dirty/beauty that we create as humans and the perfect/strange elements of nature are woven together in this show and express the weird/perfect universe in my head.”

Clara has been a Graphic Designer and Art Director for the last 20 years, working and living in NYC as the Creative Director at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) while also specializing in work for the cultural sector. She is a photographer, art maker, self-proclaimed “super type nerd,” and lover of all the small details. She is currently Pyramid Atlantic’s Designer in Residence.
