The former organizers of artshows at the prolific underground dive gallery and artist workspace Hole in the Sky announce the first in their next series of endeavors—stepping outside the comfort of their own studios to produce events and other artistic happenings at radical spaces throughout Washington DC + beyond.
The concept is simple: carve a wood block into a custom car shape, paint it, add wheels, then race it against your buds on a giant ramp.
They’re soliciting registration participation from artists and makers around DC and beyond to create some awesome kinetic sculptures, hang out, drink beers, admire the artistry of their cars and then race them down a big ole’ ramp.
$10 registers individuals for a spot in the car show + race tournament + a sweet swag bag for participation. Full registration details and signup via Eventbrite.
Prizes will be awarded for Speed + Design. Attendance is free. Individuals can express an interest in coming to hang out at the Facebook Event page.
Want to make a car but need tools, materials, etc?
The weekend before the event—on October 2—Hole in the Sky will host a car-making session where folks interested in participating but lacking access to car-making tools and materials can come use ours to make their cars. Pay attention to the Facebook Event for confirmed session announcements.
