Opening Reception: Friday, June 8 from 6pm to 8pm
Cross MacKenzie Gallery is pleased to present Summer Fresh, an exhibition of colorful architectural ceramics by Marissa McInturff that will appeal to DC’s designers. Paintings by new artists from Kaller Fine Arts will offer a fresh back drop.
McInturff is the artist behind the Barcelona-based ceramics brand Mari Masot. Her work draws its inspiration from the harmonious intersection between nature and human creativity, most specifically in the area of Catalunya in which she lives and has her studio. The stacking pieces in this series speak directly to Barcelona’s seaside Poblenou neighborhood, known for its industrial history and infrastructure, street art, and proximity to the Mediterranean.
Decidedly minimalist in form, McInturff’s ceramics evoke totems and towers with their verticality. Working in a palette of colors spanning from earthy tones to warm pastels, her vessels exude a calmness that is only heightened by their clean lines. Constructed through both wheel-thrown and slip-cast methods, McInturff’s work resonates with the same clean lines always evident in the contemporary architecture of her father, the renowned Mark McInturff.
The Cross MacKenzie Gallery is located at 1675 Wisconsin Ave. NW. More images available on their web site www.crossmackenzie.com.
