Opening Reception: Thursday, August 8 from 6pm to 8pm
Closing Reception: September 5 from 6pm to 8pm
Lay of the Land: Perspectives on the American Landscape will open to the public on August 5, 2019 with an opening reception and special tribute to Bruce McNeil, on Thursday, August 8.
Exhibited through the Curatorial Grant Program award from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities (CAH), Jarvis Grant, Art Educator in the Museum Studies program at Duke Ellington School of the Arts, curates Lay of the Land exhibition featuring six artists: Lllewellyn Berry, Steven Donegan, Ken Hipkins, Grover Massenburg, Bruce McNeil, and Francesca Scott. These artists do not trek to distant locations in visual search of grand vistas, but explore and discover, in some cases literally, what’s in their backyard.
The opening reception pays homage to photographer Bruce McNeil, who passed in May 2019, with a celebration of his work, legacy, and his friendships. The late McNeil, a Ward 7 Resident, captured the beauty of the Anacostia River.
- Monday – Friday: 9am to 6pm
