Solo show “Capricious Gods and Human Folly” featuring new paintings and drawings by Regina Miele.
This body of work, begun in the Spring of 2020, explores the world of the Old Gods in relationship to humanity, the myths. It is an exploration of the past years events in highly refined oil paintings, charcoals, and pastel, using both contemporary imagery and original conceived scenes from Norse Mythology. The viewer, like the Gods, is often kept in the position of observer, above Manhattan, in the clouds of Tuscany, on the streets of Washington, DC and in mythical landscapes seen through the eyes of Odin and his Ravens, Huginn and Muninn.
Miele, a classically trained painter, has shown both nationally and internationally and is held in permanent public collections. She has been awarded the District of Columbia Arts and Humanities Fellowship for excellence in artistic discipline for this 2023 fiscal year. Maureen Flynn writes in Gallery and Studio Magazine “Miele displays a poetic gift which sets her apart as a realist painter with a unique angle of vision.”
