Glen Echo Park Partnership Galleries: FEBRUARY EXHIBITIONS
Interior World: Contemporary Furniture
February 27 – March 21, 2021 // Popcorn Gallery
The group show Interior World is a boundless timescape of experimentation in the age of customization. The artists reinvent the nature of their chosen materials- metal, wood, pottery, and found objects – to create functional and non-functional contemporary furniture. The complex structures are a reflection of their subconscious and experimental worlds. The pieces in this show go beyond the typical or expected domestic design. Enjoy local artists Alex Kasten, Ruth Lozner, Joel D’Orazio, Chris Shea, Jordan Sanders, Megan Lewis and Cristian Wicha as they present the best of their craft, sculpture, and design exploration.
Sophia McCrocklin: The Understory
February 27 – March 21, 2021 // Stone Tower Gallery
McCrocklin’s drawings and sculptures of ferns highlight the elegance and tenacity of these prehistoric plants, which she discovered in the thick undergrowth of Dumbarton Oaks Park in Washington, DC. Her pen and ink drawings call attention to the unique characteristics of these ferns by incorporating the blotted-line technique to capture the wild and whimsical charm of these ancient plants. Her two large sculptures unveil the grandeur and majestic presence of the ferns. Each sculpture takes about six months to complete and is made to-scale from Dacron and copper wire and is sewn, cut, and painted, meticulously detailed.
