Opening Reception: Saturday, September 16 from 5-8pm
The term “get in where you fit in” is used to describe finding one’s place, and how and when to take up space. This exhibition showcases contemporary black women artists (Rhema Jordan Labbe, Rebecca Marimutu, Linnea Poole, and Ciarra Walters) exploring this landscape through form manipulation. In their own way, each artist is utilizing form within their practice to search for clues of their lineage, existence in the art world (and the world at large), how to experiment within their artmaking practice, and how to make space for others whose identities intersect their own. This exhibition is curated by Baltimore, MD based curator Thomas James. In addition to his independent curation practice, from 2018-2021 James served as the Director of Visual Arts at Creative Alliance and is now the Executive Director of The Last Resort Artist Retreat.
Brentwood Arts Exchange is located at 3901 Rhode Island Avenue, Brentwood, MD.
