Opening Reception: Friday, March 8 from 6pm to 8pm
Red Currant was founded in 2018 by an artist who wanted to create better, up-to-date, and cutting-edge tools and conceptual devices for artists and beyond. Working in an esoteric, open source manner, Red Currant creates solutions for problems that range from our simple art-making troubles to more complex inter connectivity issues.
Rat Nest, Dan Winter’s MFA thesis exhibition, will showcase a tangle of projects that summarize to metamorphose Red Currant’s guiding principles into physical and interactive forms. Viewers will be invited to become involved in “The Underground Art Market,” get abducted by extraterrestrial beings, and receive a Vibe Ring (first 50 people) at the opening reception to activate with other souls during a live DJ set.
Dan Winter is an interdisciplinary artist whose work probes the human connection through conceptual devices and alternative modes of engineering for art-making applications under his art practice, Red Currant. By structuring his practice as an art/tech company, Winter can experiment extensively on projects that aid in art making, create exoteric value, and most importantly, bring humans together. Winter is natively a ‘Yinzer’ from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania where he received his BFA in Photography from Point Park University. He is currently attending George Washington University for his MFA.
