Opening: Friday, October 6 from 7pm to 10pm
The Capitol Hill Art League (CHAL), a visual arts program of the Capitol Hill Arts Workshop, challenged its members to create a piece of art, inspired one of five American song classics. 34 artists will present their own interpretations from one of the five chosen songs: My Favorite Things, Body and Soul, On the Road Again, Night & Day, and As Time Goes By.
CHAL artists work in a variety of mediums including sculpture, oil painting, watercolor, multi-media, and photography. For each of the five songs, six artists exhibit a specially created artwork showing how they connected to the music.
The artists used that inspiration to create their own interpretation of the song. Five songs – six different ways – think of a jukebox where the same songs play over and over but each time with a different musician cranking it up.
The artists exhibiting are: Cathy Abramson, Kasse Andrews Weller, Nancy Arbuthnot, Ken Bachman, Kim Bursic, Judith Capan, Sally Canzoneri, Karen Cohen, Marie DeAmicis, Elizabeth Eby, Kay Fuller, Tara Hamilton, Robin Harris, Nicol Hockett, Tamora Ilasat, Vince Lannachhione, Eileen Leahy, Barbara Johnson, Jo Ann Laboy, Dave Mann, Jane Mann, Charles Martin, Mike McSorley, James Molles, Hernan Murno, Rindy OBrien, Joan Owings, Martha Pope, Carolyn Rondthaler, Sandy Tallant, Tati Valle Riestra, Robert Weinstein, Karen Zens.
