Leave your ugly holiday sweaters at home and enjoy a different kind of holiday celebration, the 7th Annual Krampuslauf.
On December 1st Krampus returns for the 7th annual Krampuslauf while raising funds for a good cause, the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) 501(c)(3). Krampusnacht DC is excited to bring a little joy to DC area youth in the upcoming holidays, delivering 250 + personalized Christmas gifts for children in the DC foster system.
While in the spirit of the European Krampuslauf tradition, this is a light-hearted eventwhere St. Nichols and his horned companion, Krampus, will be deciding who has been naughty or nice with children’s activities, photos, fire and dance performances, Krampus charity walk and an afterparty with DJ and refreshments!
The evening starts at Gallery O on H with a family friendly reception where children of all ages can visit with Santa Clause, create their own Krampus mask or get their face painted, and have photos taken with Krampus and Santa Clause. The reception continues with festivus performances by fire artists, Pecuilarity productions, and traditional folk dance by the Foggy Bottom Morris Men. Following the reception, the extraordinary Batala Drummers will amplify their rhythms as St. Nicholas leads the Krampus onto H Street N.E. for a short charity Krampuslauf walk.
Participants then will reconvene at Gallery O on H for more performances, sponsor giveaways, kids and adult costume contest and an afterparty with Dj Scruggz.
There is no cover for the event, just a $15 suggested donation with proceeds going to NCCF. Reception and walk are open to all ages. The after party is 21+ at 9pm. Costumes or any reasonable attempt is highly encouraged. Organizers anticipate the event to be highly attended, purchasing tickets in advance is highly recommended. The mission of the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF) is to create total, healthy living environments for vulnerable children, youth and families, and the quality of life which empowers their ability to thrive and demonstrate responsibility. Having originated in 2012 with a small group of friends who enjoy creating folkloric costuming, Krampusnacht DC quickly has grown into a dedicated group of organizers and performers who volunteer their time and talents.
