Potomac Journey, Jonathan Weiner’s stunning photographs explore where this great river begins, where it ends and what lies in between. Jonathan’s beautiful body of work follows Our Nation’s River from its humble origin in the Appalachian Mountains, through our Nation’s Capital to the River’s grand joining with the Chesapeake Bay.
The photographs in this exhibition have been selected from a larger body of work that took over four years to create and are printed from traditional slide film.
About the artist:
Jonathan Weiner grew up in Washington, DC, not far from the banks of the Potomac River. A perfect childhood day for Jonathan included fishing and exploring the banks of the Potomac with friends. Later, he would canoe and sail the river’s waters and explore the wilds of western Maryland and West Virginia.
Weiner studied photography at The Corcoran School of Art and at Montgomery College. He also studied at the University of Alaska and De Montfort University in Leicester, England. Jonathan interned as a photographer with the Gazette Newspapers and the Washington Times and has worked freelance for the Gazette. He has assisted professional and commercial photographers and has worked as an image editor with online publications. To complete this project, Jonathan drew on his talents as a photographer, his experience as a journalist, his local knowledge of the area and his love of the Potomac River.
Jonathan resides in Washington DC and is currently a primary school art teacher in Fairfax, Virginia.
