Opening Reception: Friday, August 6 from 5pm to 7pm
Gallery Underground in August presents, in the Focus Gallery, Magic of the Ordinary, a national juried exhibition of works juried by noted watercolor artist Lois Wolford. The Pop Art Movement challenged traditional fine art values and brought art based on popular culture and everyday items into the mainstream. It is typical that normal scenes and objects are overlooked, as they can be seen as commonplace or dull. However, magic can be found in the ordinary when it is interpreted as art. Artists were invited to look beyond and turn the ordinary into extraordinary, resulting in a compelling exhibition of works submitted from both the DMV area and across the country.
In the Main Gallery are new works by members in all themes, in media including oil, acrylic, pastel, watermedia, sculpture, glass, ceramics, wood and metalwork.
These shows also mark the gallery’s return to in-person First Friday opening receptions.

Gallery Underground anchors the visual arts component of Crystal City’s Art Underground, and on First Fridays (first Friday of every month), it hosts an opening reception free and open to all from 5-7pm.
In addition to monthly rotating exhibitions, Gallery Underground hosts a variety of community events, like lunchtime paint-ins and dance and musical performances.
