Event: Sunday, April 30 from 12pm to 4pm
Discover the joy of glass at the 2017 Glass Arts Festival held at Glen Echo Park on Sunday, April 30, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. (rain or shine). Experienced glass artists from the National Capital Art Glass Guild will demonstrate glass techniques ranging from stained glass to fused glass to blown glass. Visitors will see how artists create jewelry, stained glass panels, blown vessels, recycled glass art, and fused glass sculpture. Highlights include a special glass blowing demonstration at Glassworks studio and a murrini pull that produces long rods of patterned glass at the Art Glass Center at Glen Echo. Kids can create colorful faux glass pieces in a special children’s activity, while parents can peruse an array of glass gifts in our mini pop-up store in the Bumper Car Pavilion. All artist demonstrations are free and do not require registration or tickets. Free parking is also available.
The Art Glass Center and Glassworks are two of the fourteen resident artists and arts organizations at Glen Echo Park, a vibrant arts and cultural center managed by the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts and Culture. The Park offers classes and camps in visual and performing arts, art exhibitions, children’s theater performances, summer concerts, environmental programs, special events and festivals, and a lively social dance program. The National Capital Art Glass Guild is a group of about 200 glass artists from Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC, as well as several other states and countries who come together to share ideas, learn from each other, and have fun.
Glen Echo Park is located at 7300 MacArthur Blvd. in Glen Echo, Maryland, six miles northwest of Georgetown along the scenic Potomac River palisades.
