On view until December 28, 2019 in Harmony Hall’s Art Center’s Main Art Gallery, Faces of Color is a retrospective of several decades of “Modern Day Impressionist” Mr. Durrah’s colorful, dynamic and bold artwork.

This collection of paintings showcases his early work to his most recent portraiture and examines his transformation from Photorealism to Impressionist painting.

Born in Western Pennsylvania, Mr. Durrah’s higher education took place in this area; he graduated from well-known Howard University in the early ‘80s with a degree in political science. He received formal art training at the Corcoran School of Arts and has been exhibited locally in such places as DC’s Pepco (Edison Place) and the Capital Jazz Fest, as well as nationally (New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, Atlanta GA’s Essence Festival, NYC’s Lincoln Center, Pittsburg PA’s Three Rivers Art Festival, Chicago IL’s African Art Festival and internationally (US Embassy in Rome, Italy.).

Mr. Durrah’s burgeoning style strategically places patches of vibrant oil colors on canvas to form beautiful faces. The use of multiple colors represents the multiracial aspects of humans. Through his art, Jay would like people to focus on the commonality of humanity.
