Event: Friday, August 19 and Saturday, August 20 from 3pm to 10pm
A solo art exhibition presenting paintings by Erick Buendia. In addition, skateboard decks, t-shirts, and stickers will be sold at the event all featuring designs by Erick Buendia.
The art exhibition will be on the first floor of the Homme Gallery and a live band and DJ will play music in the below ground level floor of Homme Gallery, right by the entrance. Both events have separate entrances but are under the same name of the exhibition, “Iron Smile Gallery.”
Live music and a DJ will be a part of the event on Friday night starting with the live band at 6PM which will play until 8PM. The DJ will play music from 8PM until 10PM. The band “Milk Factory” features George Elias as the drummer and Bruce Wright as the pianist. Bruce Wright will take over as DJ later in the evening.
The exhibition was made by Erick Buendia to help promote fellow young local artists in other mediums. So in addition to visual art, the public can also get to know local musicians. It will all culminate in an experience more than an exhibition.
The art has expressionist influence, depicting darker themes that contrast with the stylistic levity or irony. The gallery was named “Iron Smile” after one of the paintings, which depict a man of color with a bloody mouth. “Iron Smile” is a metaphor for a bloody mouth.
Erick Buendia is a recent high school graduate who enjoys painting, filmmaking, and writing. He invokes a narrative in all of his work, aiming to tell a story through striking images that draw your attention.
The exhibition takes place on August 19 and August 20th, each day open from 3PM to 10PM at the Homme Gallery on 52 O St NW. The event is free and open to everybody.
