The IDB Staff Association Art Gallery presents Northward, a solo exhibition by Haitian artist Mildor Chevalier featuring 16 paintings of acrylic on canvas and two works on paper created in the past three years.
Mildor Chevalier explores the idea of belonging and solitude, inspired by gathering memories of his personal experience as an immigrant in the Dominican Republic and the US. The works feature Chevalier’s imaginary architectural spaces and in some of the works the artist situates people interacting or alone inhabiting these spaces.
Born in Haiti in 1982, Chevalier lives and works in New York City (NYC. He obtained his Fine Arts Degree from the School of Design at Altos del Chavón in the Dominican Republic. After which he received a full scholarship to study at Parsons the New School of Design in NYC. He has a Master of Fine Arts from the Fashion Institute of Technology in NYC. His multicultural experiences give him access to the world of global art and he has become an international artist with exhibitions, biennials, and art fairs in galleries from Haiti to Quebec, from New York to Shanghai, from Paris to Santo Domingo. His work is in private collections in the Dominican Republic, China, and around the world.
The IDB Staff Association Art Gallery, located in downtown DC, was established in 1964 to disseminate the various expressions of contemporary art primarily from Latin America and the Caribbean. Now in its fifty-four year, the Gallery is the oldest in the area to have exhibited the work of more than 500 emerging and renowned artists mainly from LAC.
