Opening: Friday, July 12 from 7pm to 9pm

Iridian Gallery is excited to announce the arrival of two solo shows by provocative queer artists, John Paradiso and Pansy Ass Ceramics. Opening July 12 with a reception from 7-9pm, Washington DC based artist John Paradiso will present “Masculine Fiber” in our main gallery while Kris Aaron and Andrew Walker of Toronto present “Pansy Ass Sissy Shop” in our two more intimate gallery spaces. The shows will run through August 31st and can be viewed during Diversity operating hours 7 days a week.

Paradiso’s textile art is an on-going exploration of his gay male identity and the intimacy between men. At times the work is a statement about his experience navigating a sex-positive lifestyle among a prevalence of sex-negative messages. At other times the work is a way to process and honor his feminine side while striving to be more masculine.

Pansy Ass Ceramics explore gay male identity and culture through the medium of porcelain and the act of ornamentation. The fragility, elegance and prestige of porcelain and its traditional role in domestic life makes it an exciting avenue to explore alternative, but popular, themes of culture, identity and sexuality. Their work is predominantly slip-cast porcelain that is combined with hand built elements.

Iridian Gallery is located at 1407 Sherwood Ave., Richmond, VA.
