Orange Grove Dance return to Joe’s Movement Emporium April 16 – 20 for a NextLOOK residency at Joe’s Movement Emporium in partnership with The Clarice. The revival of The 1 Mile Radius Project will happen throughout Mount Rainier, MD on Friday, April 20th at 7 pm. Last year saw record-breaking crowds participating in this interactive art installation combined with innovative dance techniques by University of Maryland students. This year looks to deepen the exploration of the neighborhood building on footage and stories already captured in 2017.

About The 1 Mile Radius Project
An expansion of Orange Grove Dance’s 2016-2017 NextLOOK residency, part two of The 1 Mile Radius Project  allows for deeper exploration of the unique spaces within a one-mile radius of Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mount Rainier, MD. “Our human imprint and the memory of our movement linger in spaces well after we have migrated through them,” states Orange Grove Dance co-founders Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves. The 1 Mile Radius Project will explore these imprints and through dance, film and projections, it will investigate the personal and uniquely traversed spaces of the community, zooming into and magnifying the intimate nooks and crevices of seemingly familiar areas.

About Orange Grove Dance
Orange Grove Dance, founded in 2007 by Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves, is built on the ideals of integrating dance, design, film, and movement with all communities.

Colette Krogol and Matt Reeves are dancers, choreographers, filmmakers, and teaching artists. They have been making work collaboratively for over ten years as the Artistic Directors of Orange Grove Dance. In 2017 they were selected as the ‘Audience Choice Award’ winner of the 34th Annual Choreographers Showcase Award for their work Holding, Here, which was described by Dance Metro DC as a “magically spun… visual tale of suspension, tension, and community within a multilayered moving painting.” Krogol and Reeves both hold MFAs in Dance from the University of Maryland and BFAs from the University of Florida.

About The Clarice Artist Partner Program
The Clarice’s Artist Partner Program curates a multi-arts performance series with regional, national and international artists and creative innovators. The program is dedicated to creating performance and learning opportunities for our students and our community through artist residencies, workshops, masterclasses, K-12 student matinees and artistic exchange. We believe artists can be catalysts for community change, leadership and empowerment. As part of a major public research university, the Artist Partner Program is committed to the creation and investigation of new work and new ways of participating in the performing arts.
