Diane Tuckman was born in Egypt, escaped to France in 1948, and then came to the United States. In 1978, Diane launched Ivy Imports to import silk painting products to the U.S. and thereby brought the art form of painting on silk to this country. In addition to co-founding Silk Painters International, Diane teaches, paints and exhibits her work. Diane has co- authored three books on painting on silk with Jan Janas, with a fourth to be published soon.
Photography Art Statement
Florals, water plants, trees and rocks figure very prominently in my work because they reflect my long held passions for nature, for textures and for colors. My approach is usually eclectic. I have several ongoing series. With photography, I seek to connect and to share.
Silk Art Statement
I am a silk artist – silk is my canvas of choice. The endless possibilities of silk painting is a continuous challenge. There is always something new on the horizon to try out so constant exploration is very exciting, fruitful and rewarding. The various textures of the different silks and how they look when painted, encourages me to create interesting combinations by layering or juxtaposing the painted silks. I can use several techniques combined on one piece of silk or just one for a special effect.
