Character Abstraction
June 3 – August 17, 2019
Reception: June 8, 5-8 pm
Artist Talk: June 29th, 2-4 pm
Abstraction, a broad term that explains so much yet so little at the same time. From formal to expressive, from minimal to maximal, this big word is often used with abandon and an unwillingness to dive a little deeper into understanding non-representation.

CHARACTER ABSTRACTION is a group exhibition that applies non-representational art making methods across different disciplines to create unique narratives, defining abstraction in more organic terms. This exhibition will carry ingredients of coy, silliness, over zealousness, behaviorism and calm – redirecting line, form and color to find a more humanistic process of interpretation.

Featuring the work of Ian Jehle, Isabel Manalo, Judy Southerland, and Olivia Tripp Morrow.

Matt Wilt: Hand/Eye
June 3 – August 17, 2019
Reception: June 8, 5-8 pm
Matt Wilt creates works that incorporate motion and sound by using mechanical components and drawing from the traditions of Dadaist and Surrealist sculpture. The enigmatic collection of objects seeks to present a more eclectic vision of art and transcend some of the common stereotypes associated with a given medium.

In Hand/Eye he showcases the inherent value of material craftsmanship and how it can be utilized to reinforce and give structure to our creative mindset.

Brentwood Arts Exchange is located at 3901 Rhode Island Ave., Brentwood, MD.
