Lesole’s Dance Project in Partnership with Joe’s Movement Emporium, Celebrates South Africa’s Youth Day & Juneteenth

The group returns to Joe’s Movement Emporium for an expansion of their original residency concept.

Lesole’s Dance Project (LDP) in partnership with The South Africa Embassy will honor South Africa’s Youth Day and Juneteenth during their 15th anniversary with the return of the 9th annual “Freedom of Expression” celebration on June 16, 2018 at 8pm and June 17, 2018 at 4pm at Joe’s Movement Emporium in Mt. Rainier, MD.

Tickets are $25 general admission, $15 for students and seniors, and there are a limited number of VIP tickets available for purchase for $40.

About “Freedom of Expression”
LDP will immerse the audience into South African Culture and take them on a journey through the Zululand (Kwa Zulu Natal) to Lesotho with song and dance. The company will perform signature works such as Indlamu, “a traditional Zulu dance”, Setso Sarono “a Sotho traditional dance” and Khoba (a traditional dance from Botswana made possible by Maryland State Arts Council). As part of LDP’s 15 years of dancing, they will introduce new works such as “Shepelani” from the Shona people and “Pathisi” from Botswana with special guest artist Odirile Rammoni, the artistic director of Ngwao Letshwao established in 2005.

About Lesole’s Dance Project
Lesole’s Dance Project, founded by Baba (Nkanyezi) Lesole Z. Maine in 2003, is a 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization. The company creates and performs works that highlight the unique qualities of Afro-Fusion dance and provides educational programs on the movement and history of popular South African culture to schools and communities across the world. In 2009, LDP launched its First International Edu-dance Program in South Africa with the help of its board and generous donors. In August 2012, the company returned to South Africa to continue, enhance and strengthen the program established with the help of local artists and teachers in the townships of Sebokeng and Alexandra South Africa.
