Exhibition runs  Tuesday, October 14, 2014 to Monday, January 5, 2015.

The show can be viewed Monday-Friday, 10am to 5pm. A reception will be held in his honor on Friday, November 7, 2014 from 6:45pm to 8pm. This event is free to the public.

The Publick Playhouse presents the work of Luis Peralta. Mr. Peralta is painter that feels like an explorer, not necessarily creating but instead discovering. He states, “I discover paintings I have to materialize with or without inspiration. Fortunately, from my home in Anacostia my journey is aided by the abundant inspiration I discover in the people and places East of the River, such as the Frederick Douglass House.”

His current work, the Freedom Series, blends iconic American symbols of democracy into a representation of the freedom that we are able to achieve. The image is a mirror of an unfamiliar self. It reminds the user that freedom is in all of us. We must work toward releasing and maintaining it. Freedom is not static but dynamic. It is a continuous process.

This exhibition is presented by the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, Department of Parks and Recreation, Prince George’s County, Arts and Cultural Heritage Division.
