Reception: Saturday, March 14 from 5pm to 7pm
The Gallery at the Wharf is pleased to present an exhibition featuring artist Joel D’Orazio. The Color + Structure show will run from March 13 – April 19, 2020 with a reception Saturday, March 14 from 5-7 pm. The exhibition will feature bold color on panels, mixed medium works and sculpture using found and donated objects.
After practicing architecture for more than 25 years, Joel D’Orazio turned to a new medium. Joel creates an art adventure using vibrant colors in many forms. The art is uncommon yet suggest the familiar forms of nature and identity. Each medium plays an important role in the discovering the original identity and use. Originating in the subliminal, each work is a fresh encounter with vibrant and jazzy energy.
The paintings relate only to each other with each providing clues to interpret the next. D’Orazio says, “My artistic vocabulary is devoid of obvious symbols and messages, I do not intend to tell a story or render a recognizable form.” Though the images are generated spontaneously, recurring themes of movement and form can be found. This is their power. In contrast, D’Orazio’s three-dimensional works transforms humble material into abstract forms that reveal a poetic rebirth. For example, the colorful hanging zip-tie sculptures yield quirky playful structures that amuse the viewer.
Color + Structure exhibition runs through April 19, 2020. The artist will be present at the reception Saturday, March 13 from 5-7 p.m.
