On View: September 11 – September 30
Martha Spak Gallery is pleased to present an exhibition featuring artists Susan Fine and Steve Rogers. The art exhibition Horizons: Lost and Found will run from September 1- 30, 2021 at the gallery and online. The exhibition features two artists with two artistic perspectives when considering the idea of horizons. Susan Fine addresses the idea of Horizons in an abstract way while Steve Rogers creates Horizons through representational paintings of nature. Although Ms. Fine and Mr. Rogers have strikingly varied approaches to their work, they both share a deep interest in exploring a visual story through their experiences using shapes and texture to sway the viewer to their point of view.
Ms. Fine’s collection consists of mixed media and found objects. The horizon is a presented by scraping away paint from some surfaces while adding objects to other surfaces. Each abstract piece leads to a discussion about perceived Horizons in faraway places or within the piece itself. Like the artists’ perspective, these creations reveal a layered experience.
Mr. Rogers’ art represents the horizon line as an essential part of making his art realistic. The horizon lines and linear perspective appear in each of his coastal village paintings. The saturated colors, clean lines and structured strokes convey a strong sense of place, time and purpose. Each painting is a welcome invitation to take a closer look.
This exhibition can be viewed both online at www.MarthaSpakGallery.com and at the gallery.
Each monthly exhibition has a theme that exemplifies the featured artists’ style. “Horizons” runs through September 30, 2021.
