Material Things Hosts Community Party with Hands-on Natural Dyeing and Screenprinting

Material Things and local artist Danny Varillas invite the community to a hands-on dyeing and screenprinting party, held in conjunction with the closing of Varillas’ exhibition of new, handwoven works, titled we are and will be dust.

On Saturday, October 1, from 2 to 5 p.m. RESCHEDULED to Saturday, October 8 from 2-5pm artist Danny Varillas will lead natural indigo dyeing and screenprinting stations for the public to explore these processes and create their own unique fabric items. The processes of textile dyeing and screenprinting, both integral to Varillas’ creative practice, have histories of reflecting communities and servicing collectives.

Bandanas prepped for dyeing and printing will be sold while supplies last. This event will take place in the parking lot outside Material Things. All ages are welcome to participate.

we are and will best dust will be open for the public to view during the event. The exhibition opened in The Pallet Rack, an experimental gallery space at Material Things, on September 3, and will be open for viewing until 5 p.m. on October 1. Masks are required inside Material Things.

About Material Thing and the Pallet Rack
Material Things is the creative workspace of Francisco Rosario and Katie Aldworth, plus many other friends who make the Material Things creative community possible. Francisco works primarily in wood and metal to create sculpture, and on occasion, utilitarian ware. Katie works in clay to create utilitarian ware, and on occasion, sculpture. Limited classes in clay, wood, and welding are also offered.
