The Loudoun campus of Northern Virginia Community College proudly hosts this season’s faculty biennial featuring the artworks of many of its professors of visual art and graphic design. The exhibition includes two-, three-, and four-dimensional pieces that represent the range of experiences, approaches, and materials employed by these accomplished professionals.

This collection of work represents faculty who teach at the NOVA Alexandria, Annandale, Loudoun, Manassas, and Woodbridge campuses. These professors provide instruction in the fundamentals and advanced techniques for drawing, painting, sculpture, portfolio composition, graphic skills, and Web design. Their courses explore both traditional artmaking media and more contemporary digital forms.

As demonstrated by this exhibition, each artist included within it pursues their own creative endeavors, often sharing their own work with students. Some embrace conceptual threads that recurrently define their art practices. Others interpret everyday occurrences that engage viewers via a compelling moment in time. There are those, too, who relish investigating the behavior and boundaries of their chosen media.

Founded in 1965, NOVA is the largest public educational institution in Virginia and the second largest community college in the United States, comprised of more than 75,000 students and 2,600 faculty and staff members. NOVA is also one of the most internationally diverse colleges in the United States, with a student body consisting of individuals from more than 180 countries.
