Artists & Makers Studios 1 on Parklawn hosts a dual exhibition by photographer Roy Sewall. “C&O Canal Panoramic Views” is a recent project that returns Roy to his roots and long-time stomping grounds. The 14 wide-view photographs, printed on metal, depict the exceptional beauty of the canal during its more tranquil seasons: fall and winter. “Mysterra” is a body of work of illusions, with sub-themes of fantasy, whimsy, and spirits. “DMV Drop-In: Highlighting the DC Metro Skate Scene” curated by Dan Roncesvalles with Sara Moline is an exhibit that will spotlight the athletic and artistic talents of area skaters and their supporters. Take a plunge into the bowl where sport and subculture combine. These exhibits, along with Glen Kessler exhibiting over 200 drawings and paint sketches from over 20 years of art-making in The Compass Atelier. Theremin music throughout the evening by Arthur Harrison in the artist hall as well as resident artists’ open studios will add to the experience.
Additionally, A&M2 on Wilkins is proud to present a solo exhibit of paintings by Pat Coates titled “Finding Peace”. These paintings are not the staged still life objects of centuries past but instead are everyday items in public venues that give the artist joy in discovering the energy and rhythm of composition. “Hats, Magnificent Hats” is an exhibit of artist-made hats and caps for the fashion minded – from haute couture to whimsical, there is something for almost everyone. The Montgomery County Camera Club presents “Shades of Light”, a group gallery exhibition by the members of the camera club, along with a new exhibit by the 21 member artists in Gallery 209 and resident artists’ open studios will be on display – all just 9/10’s of a mile from the flagship location on Parklawn with free parking at both locations and the best parties in town.
