Jennifer Dunbar, Au Gres II, Reduction Woodblock Print.
Opening Reception: Saturday, March 14 from 4pm to 6pm

Printmakers Inc is proud to present Jennifer Dunbar’s solo exhibition titled Quintessence: the pure, highly concentrated essence of place. Jennifer captures a sense of place by starting with an image from her travels and continually carving the same woodblock to create layers of color and the feeling of being in that location. Jennifer draws from locations across the United States and Europe including Michigan, Maine, Louisiana, Washington DC, Virginia, Greece, Italy, and Peru.

She is a new member of Printmakers Inc., and a mainstay at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Alexandria, Virginia.  Jennifer is also an affiliate at Discover Graphics Atelier for the past three years where she teaches printmaking classes and creates her wondrous multilayered prints in Studio 202.

Jennifer works primarily in the reduction woodblock technique, meaning that she carves from the same woodblock to apply each layer/color, gradually reducing the block’s surface area. Because the block’s surface is gradually reduced, no additional editions can be made.  Her style is painterly and saturated with color to emit the emotive qualities of being in that place. The artwork will be on exhibit from 1 March 2020 to March 31, 2020.

Printmakers Inc is located at Torpedo Factory Art Center/Studio 325, 105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA.
