Opening Reception: Sunday, January 26 from 2pm to 4pm
Printmakers is excited to present WANDERINGS, another successful collaboration of two professional printmakers. Judith Coady and Priscilla Young join together again to show new works created over the past two years. Both artists use bold color, shape and pattern to create these new strong, original, hand-pulled prints.
Judith Coady creates monotypes by layering oil-based printmaking inks, made transparent with an additive, with hand-cut stencils in successive passes through the press. As each layer of ink dries, a new blend of color and shapes emerges. After the piece is completely dry it is then enhanced with color pencil, pastel and/or collage. Wavelike patterns with meandering color play across each print. The observation of water movement at summer camp in Maine is evident in this artist’s pieces.
Priscilla Young’s strong, bold linocuts are born from a daily discipline of collage work in her sketchbook. In these pieces colorfully bright and subdued shapes touch upon each other to produce striking imaginative prints. Priscilla Young cuts the linoleum into collage-like pieces. Each piece is carved separately, then individually inked, reassembled and passed through the press one or more times.
Although these works are created separately they appear to speak the same language of movement, color and activity as if the artists were working side by side.
