Event: Saturday, May 14 from 2pm to 5pm
Project Create (PC) has announced that it will host its annual Spring Student Art Showcase on Saturday, May 14th from 2:00 – 5:00PM. The arts education nonprofit organization, which is approaching its 30th anniversary in 2024, will highlight performances and artwork created by students in 2022. On display will be paintings, sculptures, mosaics, improv performances, African dance and drumming, choral music, DJ sets, studio music productions, and photography. Project Create has enlisted the expertise of acclaimed international curator Nicola Charles, founder of 11:Eleven Gallery, to elevate the experience for attendees. Project Create Executive Director, Christie Walser, is excited to highlight student work.
“At the Project Create Arts Center, we offer free multidisciplinary art classes to well over 250 students each semester,” said Walser. “The real story exists within each student’s unique personal journey. That’s what will truly be on display at our Spring Showcase. Positive self-development through artistic activities is why we exist, and we’re happy to be able to provide impactful creative experiences for all who walk through our doors.”
Project Create’s doors are open throughout the year both at its art center in Anacostia as well as at various community partner locations throughout the city. Classes introduce and curate artistic experiences from various disciplines including the performing, visual, digital and literary arts and are geared towards youth and their families. There are 247 students enrolled in 19 classes being offered during the Spring 2022 semester. Items on display have been selected by teachers and the staff, and the show will be curated by Nicola Charles of 11:Eleven gallery.
The Spring 2022 Showcase will take place from 2pm-5pm on Saturday, May 14th at the Project Create Art Center located at 2208 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave SE.
