The Forum Gallery and the Margaret W. & Joseph L. Fisher Art Gallery at the Rachel M. Schlesinger Concert Hall and Arts Center at Northern Virginia Community College’s Alexandria Campus is pleased to announce a new solo exhibition, NOMAD: The Art of Alonzo Davis. The exhibition runs from March 9th, 2019 – April 21st, 2019 with a free public reception on Saturday March 16th, 2019 2-4PM.

Alonzo’s career as an artist spans four decades. He was born in Tuskegee, Alabama and moved to Los Angeles as a teen. He received his undergraduate degree from Pepperdine College and an MFA in Printmaking and Design at Otis Arts Institute. Influenced early on by assemblage. Davis soon took wing and began to experiment with a variety of mediums, techniques and themes. At the suggestion of artist and former professor, Charles White, Davis began to produce prints and paintings in series. This exhibition NOMAD will include work from his Navigation and Migration Series.

“My art choices and worldviews have been inspired by travel and current events. Through travel, I seek influences, cultural centers, energies, new terrain and the power of both the spoken and unspoken. The magic of the Southwest United States, Brazil, Haiti and West Africa has penetrated my work. Southern California, my home for thirty years, has also had an indelible impact and the colors and rhythms of the Pacific Rim continue to infiltrate.”

The Navigation series inspired by Alonzo’s long time fascination with Micronesian stick charts includes his new 15-foot work entitled “ Navigating Climate Change”.
