Opening Reception: Friday, September 14 from 6pm to 8:30pm
GALLERY A and C
Touchstone artists create artworks related to an ideal which is longed for–a perfect life, or a sustainable environment, or genuine relationships. Actual dreamed images or self-deluding fantasies co-exist side by side in this all-media exhibit of photographs, collage, paintings, hand-pulled prints, sculptures, and drawings. Both overt and underlying messages are sure to be on display.
Passages and Borders by Rosa Vera
In Passages and Borders, her solo exhibition at Touchstone Gallery, Rosa Vera combines her experiences from living and traveling all over the Americas, from immigrating to the United States, and the influence of her Latin American family. Using assemblages, an installation, and paintings, and working in wood and acrylic, she weaves a narrative exploring the transition from one border to another, the passage of time, memory and ancestry.
As Michael Ondaatje writes in Divisadero, “Everything is biographical… What we make, why it is made, how we draw a dog, who it is we are drawn to, why we cannot forget. Everything is collage, even genetics. There is the hidden presence of others in us, even those we have known briefly. We contain them for the rest of our lives, at every border that we cross.”
Rosa Vera has exhibited her award-winning pieces in national shows, such as the National Watercolor Society International Exhibition, and in solo, juried, and group shows in Washington, D.C., San Antonio, Texas and in Lima, Peru. Her work has been published in several books and magazines and is in private collections in the US and overseas, including the permanent collection of the National Institutes of Health.
