Reception: Friday, September 6 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm
This September the Arts Club of Washington kicks off the exhibition season with Travels with Lily: England, Italy, and Washington DC. Held in the club’s historic Monroe and MacFeely Galleries, this exhibition offers viewers a rare opportunity to see and acquire works by Washington’s own iconic watercolor painter, Lily Spandorf (1914 – 2000). The club’s cooperative Spilsbury Gallery will feature pieces by arts club member Tanya Roland. Both exhibitions will be on view September 6 – September 28, 2019 with a free public reception on Friday, September 6, 2019, 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. Travels with Lily is curated by Dr. Eric Denker, senior lecturer, National Gallery of Art.
Recipients of the Spandorf estate will attend to share personal insights about Miss Spandorf and her multifaceted career which included time as the official in-house artist for President John F. Kennedy. Barr Weisman’s documentary film, A View from the Street: The Art of Lily Spandorf will be on view in the Monroe Gallery.
