Urban Uprising, Gordon Binder’s first solo show upstairs at Dupont Circle’s Studio Gallery, opens October 31.  The show features paintings and drawings of city skylines and street scenes, some based on actual places, others imaginary or abstracted from what he sees around him, all in an expressionist style.

Binder says he aligns with the painters of “modern life,” observing and recording through art some part of the visual experiences of city living.  “I’ve long been fascinated by the shapes and forms you see in the skylines of major cities,” Binder said. “The towers, spires, domes, bridges, against the sky, against the weather — viewed from streets, from roof tops, out of windows – these offer endless inspiration, along with the bustle of city streets and alleyways, the people, traffic, plazas, landscaping and signage, on and on.”
