The Derek Lieu Residency Program Average Moon An art exhibition featuring the newest work of resident artist Marisa Rasum.

Marisa is a fine artist living in Washington, DC. In the last couple of years her work has mostly shown in a few group exhibitions around DC. During her time in the residency she focused on making as many pieces as possible while taking advantage of the studio space producing larger paintings and experimenting with sculpture.

Her work is currently influenced by the wild west, astronauts and blow up dolls. She manifests immersive worlds through mixed media paintings and sculptures that carry the tone of an overpopulated dive bar/living room/motel in space. She also often thinks about Matisse’s still life paintings, Oldenburg’s “Floor Cone” and the dark, multi-layered narrative musical stylings of Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds.

The Derek Lieu Residency Program (Derek’s Alive and well) is a three month studio residency that offers free studio space, a materials allowance, and a solo exhibition at Hole in the Sky Collective.

The goal of the Derek Lieu Residency Program is to provide artists with the opportunity for free studio space in a creative environment surrounded by other artists and members of the community.
