The Joan Hisaoka Healing Arts Gallery Presents Thea Breite Standing Like a Tree: Two Moms, Two Cancers, One Family

Each year The Healing Studio Series highlights an artist’s journey with cancer.

In January 2017, Thea was diagnosed with endometrial cancer. Three months later, her wife was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. As a wife and mother of three children, the effects were devastating, sending their family on an emotional roller coaster they never imagined possible.

The images and sculptures Thea has created for this exhibition represent Thea’s journey as she, her wife, and their children try to heal. Thea’s hope is to share her story with others battling cancer, fighting depression and coping with physically and emotionally overwhelming circumstances in their own lives.

Thea Breite is a photographer, photo editor, video producer and found-wood artist. She has over 30 years of experience in newsrooms around the country including most recently, The Boston Globe.
