Tilted Torch is dedicated to bringing art of all kinds to the DC region. FIGMENT started in New York City in 2007 and comes to DC for the first time this fall. To help defray the costs of this arts festival, Tilted Torch is organizing a fundraiser and bringing together the DC area’s most talented big kids for an evening of PLAY!

FIGMENT focuses on participatory art and Tilted Torch shows are just that! An unbelievable cast of characters awaits you, covering all aspects of the variety arts from burlesque to belly dance, comedy to flow arts, and singing to hooping! We want YOU to be a part of our show. Join us for a PLAY DATE featuring Miss Joule, Malibu, Shortstaxx, Abby, Miss Debbi, Pandora’s Box, Belladonna and Super Kate, Roma Mafia, Missy Aggravation, Dolly Dee, Fractal and Aurora, and more! About Tilted Torch
Tilted Torch is a variety show based out of the Washington, DC area that has been exciting audiences for over three years. The creative collaboration of Miss Joule and Malibu, Tilted Torch combines their love of fire, performance art, over-the-top spectacles, circus, and tiny top hats. As the Washington Post put it, Tilted Torch is “everything you never knew you wanted.” With over two dozen productions to date, each show features an amazing cast that is artfully skilled in all manners of vaudeville antics including acrobatics, circus arts, dance, burlesque, comedy, music, and of course fire.

FIGMENT catalyzes and celebrates an abundance of creativity and passion, challenging artists and our communities to find new ways to create, share, think, and dream. It is a gift for each of us. A completely grassroots effort, organized and run entirely by volunteers. 2012 will be the first year FIGMENT is in Washington, DC.

FIGMENT was born from the desire to share imagination and invention between artists and the public. A chance to create, to engage, to play. It is not about watching someone else have all the fun, it’s about diving in and making the fun yourself. When FIGMENT began, Governors Island in New York City was a new public venue that had recently (2003) been turned over from the Federal Government to the city, with a very specific set of restrictions: there could be no permanent housing on the island, no casinos for 50 years, and significant portions of the island had to be used for educational and cultural purposes. In short, Governors Island was a new piece of real estate in New York City that had to be used for the benefit of all New Yorkers.

FIGMENT’s annual participatory arts event began in New York City in 2007 and has expanded to include events in Boston, Detroit, and Jackson, Mississippi. In New York, FIGMENT hosts an annual summer-long exhibition on Governors Island that includes an interactive sculpture garden, an artist-designed minigolf course, and an architectural pavilion co-presented with ENYA and SEAoNY. Each year, FIGMENT has grown – in number of projects, event duration, participants, volunteers, fundraising capability, exhibitions, geographic locations, overall level of commitment and participation, and public support.

FIGMENT DC will be located at The Yards Park on Saturday, September 29th.  The event will be free and open to the public.
